Big picture of what God is doing
Heaven – Greatly Misunderstood
This is very brief, very high level summary of what God is doing in this world. Most people don’t understand it and therefore don’t understand how a loving, wise and powerful God could allow so many the things we see in this world. But once we understand what God is doing, then we realize we would do the same thing.
It is not uncommon for a small child to be totally focused on “self” and “now”. They “want” something for their personal desires and want it “now”. Sometimes a loving and wise parent sees no issue with granting that. But sometimes they see it as part of character issue that needs maturing. The child is focused on now and self, but the parent puts that in context of their overall life and will leverage it as a life character lesson if it is something that could be a problem as get older.
God is doing the same with us. This world is a blink-of-an-eye part of our overall eternal life where God is letting us see what happens when we get to do things our own way. Our tendency to focus on self during this brief time on earth has yielded a world full of division and strife. There are some good things, but the divisions are clear between countries, political parties and more. As the parent of the child does, God offers us guidance. But our tendency to not seek, listen to, trust and follow the advice of God causes us to have the differences we see. James 1:1-3 says [summarized) What is the cause of the quarrels and conflicts among you? Is it not because you seek after pleasures and passions you cannot obtain?
Focus on “self” corrupts relationships and God is preparing us for an eternity full of wholesome relationships that we can only have once we learn to love and serve others as much as ourselves and that is not limited to just friends and family. It includes that neighbor that is very different than you and that person that comes from a very different culture.
So, we focus on this brief time in this world and our personal pleasures and passions. God sees that, but is more interested in maturing us in a way that will lead to fully wholesome relationships in Heaven for all eternity. That will be the destiny of those that seek, listen to, trust and follow God’s loving and wise guidance. John 13:35 says By this people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
